American voters need to show up to the polls. Without broad participation, the Congress is not a true representation of the electorate. It is interesting to note that the party with the most votes since the year 2000 has almost always been ….the people who do not vote! The percentage of people who fail to vote usually hovers between 35 and 50 percent, where-as the winning and losing electors generate less numbers- around 25- 45% of the public.

Around 82 million who were eligible to vote, did not in the last election - around 35%. Young adults (18-29) had the lowest turnout rates. Most of those who did not vote considered themselves independents. Hard working Hispanics and Asians were less likely to vote than other ethnic groups. It is truly amazing how many citizens are living life in a frenzy because they are a working single mother or beleaguered father trying to keep it all together. So many people - particularly the young - do not vote because they are busy working. They are in truth the voices that we need to hear from, as they are the middle class and working class.

The founding fathers linked redistricting to the 10 year census. Recently it has become a way to rig the votes ,in any year ,in both the blue and red states.
Gerrymandering hampers our constitutional right to vote. It is snowballing to the point where it makes us all wonder why we even try to vote. Gerrymandering leads to voter disillusionment and creates apathy. Let’s be rational here. Rather than constantly redistricting all of the red and blue maps because our leaders ask us to - can’t we just vote on a constitutional amendment to make Gerrymandering illegal?

-We believe that redistricting should result in an accurate reflection of the electorate following the 10 year census, and using nonpolitical, citizen-appointed means.

-We believe that gerrymandering, is a product of the Jim Crow Era, designed only to control our constitutional Power of the Vote and should be illegal.

- We think we should have a mandatory 2 hour break on November 4th for workers to perform their constitutionally mandated right to vote. To most of us, it is woefully inadequate to say that we all have the right to vote but make it impossible for many in the working class to do so.

- November 4th should be a federal holiday. It will increase voting numbers by allowing people to exercise their constitutional right to vote.

- We plan to assist the election workers with many more helpers. We hope to create a place of hope and trust in the election centers and to create a day of national celebration of our joint responsibilities and public service.

Lastly , voters in Hawaii and Alaska should not hear anyone call the election before they vote. Imagine if the vote was in the opposite direction and the entire East Coast had to endure a decision before their input. It clearly discourages voting, and we would like the vote to be carefully counted, and issues resolved without drama, before the outcomes are announced on Friday the 5th . This is a change that may create discontent initially and then as people get used to it, they will look back on their Fatigue Fridays and nights awake and laugh at the craziness of this current system.

We think that these changes will create a better workplace environment, a more accurate vote count , and allow time to recheck results or catch up if there are problems,, rather than creating avenues for misinformation and distrust. It will make the process more sane and reasonable.
