The Climate and Earth
We all love our homeland. We love the forests, the fishing and the fields. Californians love their beaches and their verdant vineyards. Minnesotans love their lakes and forests. Pennsylvanians love their fields of grains and small towns.
America has 750 military bases overseas in over 80 countries and more than 320 bases at home, each monitoring the sky’s and oceans for enemy attacks that would destroy parts of our homeland. We have more than 300 radar installations scanning constantly for rockets or aviation dangers. We even have huge telescopes scanning the solar system for asteroids that may impact Earth. All of this comes with a staggering. cost - just to protect our homeland.
What if I told you that for years, our best scouts have been returning and warning us of an enemy coming to wither our crops, burn our forests and make our children’s lives unbearable? What if 90 percent of the scouts now came back stating that the enemy is near?
If you still don’t get it, look around at your homeland. The forests are burning, the rivers are drying up, the crops are withering and the storms are stronger. This enemy is on our doorstep.
We have everything to lose.
So really - Why didn’t we mobilize…. YESTERDAY?
We are not here to debate Climate Change.
If it is not clear by now that the Earth is warming, then we encourage you to get out your old Christmas photos. Do you look different? Well, so does the snowpack in the background.
The facts are that the polar ice caps are melting at an unprecedented rate. Over 600 million people are living in regions that will, or currently have become, uninhabitable due to temperature rise. Nature is getting more angry with more wildfires burning in places that never used to see fire, and rapidly-brewing storms spawn bigger tornadoes.
But, ok .. So you say that you don’t trust science. Where does this distrust come from?
The Koch brothers conglomerate with their deep ties to oil refining, continue to fund vast networks of think tanks such as the Cato Institute and Americans for Prosperity that promote climate skepticism. Exon, Shell and other oil companies have funneled over $125 million to 92 organizations to promote climate denial.
You say that you trust those voices - I hear you. … Only… let’s look at reality for a second. Yes it is science that predicts this idea called climate change. It is also science that allows you to turn on your light switch and phone … and it starts your car every morning.… The refrigerator cools food.... In fact most of your world is based on science and you trust in it without hesitation. Science is the best predictor of the future so we all rely on it without even thinking about it.
So I encourage you to ask this same question turned back on those power brokers…
Why should We Believe YOU?
